It was approaching ten o’clock when Commander Jeffery finally determined the job was complete. The work crews started packing up their equipment, driving the machines onto the trailer where soldiers helped secure them. Clark finally sat down on a crate and wiped his brow, exhaling from exertion. It had been a long night. So much for a few hours he muttered under his breath. He looked up at the road they had managed to repair, fresh tarmac rolled out and cleared, stretching north and south to link up with the outposts either direction. He couldn’t help but look over the area with a sense of pride, feeling like he’d accomplished something good today.
